IC-26 Methiodone
IC-26, also known as methiodone, is a synthetic compound belonging to the diphenyl class of substances. Although structurally related to methadone, a well-known opioid used medically as a pain reliever and in addiction treatment, IC-26 falls into a different chemical category and has no (yet) recognized medical application.

Chemical structure and classification of IC-26
IC-26 is available as a hydrochloride salt (HCl), a form often chosen for its increased solubility in aqueous solutions and improved storage stability. Its structure is very similar to that of methadone, with the notable difference being the presence of an iodine substituent. This modification may affect its pharmacological properties, such as receptor affinity and metabolism, but this is not yet sufficiently scientifically substantiated.
Pharmacological properties of ic-26
IC-26 is being studied in the laboratory for its potential interaction with μ-opioid receptors in the central nervous system—the same receptors involved in the action of opioids such as morphine, methadone, and fentanyl. In this sense, IC-26 could theoretically have analgesic effects.
In addition, there are indications that IC-26—like some other opioids—inhibits the reuptake of neurotransmitters such as norepinephrine and serotonin. This mechanism may contribute to the pain-relieving effect, but also influence mood, alertness, and other central functions.
The duration of action of IC-26 appears to be relatively long when administered orally, but may be shorter when administered by alternative routes (such as nasally). However, no controlled clinical data are available on this.
IC-26 Comparison with other substances
IC-26 is compared in some laboratory circles to substances such as:
• Methadone: Similar basic structure, but methadone is a controlled drug.
• O-DSMT: A semi-synthetic opioid with high potency. IC-26 is reported by some sources to have an even more potent effect, although this has not been confirmed by independent toxicology studies.
Legal and ethical considerations IC-26
Although IC-26 is not (yet) covered by the Opium Act or specific medicines legislation in some countries, the substance may still be subject to analogues or psychoactive substances legislation. In the Netherlands, it is generally considered a "research chemical," but this does not automatically mean its use is legal or safe. Use outside of a laboratory setting is strongly discouraged.
